What are the most common food allergens?

More than 170 foods have been reported to cause allergic reactions. There are 9 major food allergens responsible for most of the serious food allergy reactions in the United States.

Sesame was the 9th Allergen to be declared a major food allergen recognized by the United States in April 2021. Effective January 1, 2023, Sesame is required to be listed as an allergen on food labels along with the other 8 Allergens.
